The EasyWean® NoseRing® is a reusable, non-piercing device fitted into a calf’s nostrils using a bolt and wing nut. Keep the NoseRing® in for four to six weeks if the calf remains with its mother. For calves that are to be taken away from their mothers, fit NoseRings® for about 2 weeks before separation.
To fit, insert the device into the nostrils with the spikes facing forwards and upwards, and adjust the wingnut to allow for comfortable movement. To remove, loosen the wingnut and slide the NoseRing® out of the calf’s nose. NoseRings® are reusable. For long-term use, the rings should be cleaned, greased, and stored without tension on the plastic.
How to Fit the EasyWean® NoseRing®
To Fit It
Put the animal in a neck clamp and place one end of the EasyWean® NoseRing® into the nose of the calf with the spikes facing forwards and upwards.
Then pull the Easy Wean® NoseRing® across the other side and push the other end into the nose.
Tighten the wingnut and then loosen it slightly so that the EasyWean® NoseRing® will have enough freeplay to move up and down in the nose without falling out.
