How does the EasyWean® NoseRing® work?
The non-piercing EasyWean® NoseRings® prevents suckling by physically obstructing the calf and using angled spikes to irritate the cow’s udder.
When the calf attempts to suckle, these spikes prompt the cow to move away, effectively forcing her to wean her own calf without the need for physical separation.

Do they hurt?
No! EasyWean® NoseRings® are a stress-free weaning solution. The non-piercing ring feels like a clip-on earring that the calf quickly ignores, while the spikes provide enough discomfort to discourage the cow from allowing the calf to suckle.
This allows the pair to remain together and maintain their bond while preventing suckling.
How long do the EasyWean® NoseRings® last?
You can expect to use them for about five weaning seasons, although many of our long-time clients are still using EasyWean® NoseRings® that they bought 8 – 12 years ago. It all depends on how you look after them.
How long do you need to keep the EasyWean® NoseRings® in?
Keep the rings in for four to six weeks to allow the cow to stop lactating while the pair remains together.
If physical separation is planned, two weeks is sufficient to prevent the calf from losing its milk supply and maternal bond simultaneously.

Yes! Our EasyWean® NoseRings® are reusable.
How should I store the EasyWean® NoseRings®?
When storing EasyWean® NoseRings®, loosen the wingnut so that there is no tension on the NoseRings® but that the bolt is tight enough so that it does not get lost.
If bolts are left tight the plastic will eventually lose tension over time. Before storage wash the NoseRings® and apply some grease or Vaseline to the bolts to prevent the wing nut from rusting.
